This guide was created to help you nurture what’s underneath so your extensions last longer, your scalp stays healthy, and your natural hair continues to thrive.

Step 1: Cleanse Your Scalp — Start with a Clean Foundation

Your scalp is skin. It needs to breathe, be cleansed, and stay balanced — especially under extensions, wigs, and protective styles. Product buildup, sweat, and sebum can clog follicles and slow growth if left unaddressed.

Before washing, apply Bontanuque Rise — our hibiscus-forward herbal dry mask — directly to your dry scalp and roots. Massage gently and leave for 10–15 minutes to dissolve buildup and invigorate your roots before you even step in the shower.
Follow with a sulfate-free shampoo, focusing on the scalp — not the length of your extensions
Rinse thoroughly to prevent residue buildup at the roots
Repeat every 1–2 weeks while wearing extensions or a wig

Step 2: Moisturize Your Natural Hair Underneath

Extensions and wigs can create a barrier that traps dryness. Your natural hair still needs moisture to stay strong and prevent breakage at the roots.

Before installing extensions, warm a small amount of Strandrʼe Hair Balm between your palms and apply to your natural hair from mid-lengths to ends — it seals in moisture, smooths frizz, and softens strands without weighing them down
Focus extra attention on your edges and nape, which are most vulnerable to tension and dryness
Avoid heavy butters or thick creams directly on the scalp — they can clog follicles

Step 3: Protect Your Edges

Your edges are delicate and one of the first areas to show signs of stress. Tension from installs, tight styles, and friction from scarves or pillowcases can cause thinning over time.

Never install extensions or wigs too tight — you should not feel pulling or pain
Wrap your hair nightly with our Silk Edge Veil — the premium silk fabric glides over your hairline, reducing friction and protecting your edges while you sleep
Use our Precision Edge Styler with a light edge control to smooth baby hairs without over-manipulating your hairline
Give your edges a break between installs — allow at least 1–2 weeks of rest

Step 4: Nourish Your Scalp Between Installs

The time between installs is your opportunity to reset, strengthen, and prepare your natural hair for the next style. Don’t skip this step.

Apply a few drops of Elixiroot Hair Growth Oil directly to your scalp and massage in circular motions for 5–10 minutes — this stimulates blood flow, awakens dormant follicles, and delivers powerful botanicals right where your hair needs it most
Use Elixiroot 2–3 times per week for best results
Deep condition your natural hair every wash day between installs
Trim split ends regularly to prevent breakage from traveling up the hair shaft
Avoid excessive heat on your natural hair during rest periods

Well-maintained extensions protect your natural hair by reducing tangling, matting, and the need for excessive manipulation.

Detangle extensions gently from ends to roots using a wide-tooth comb
Apply Strandrʼe Hair Balm to your extensions’ mid-lengths and ends to keep them soft, smooth, and manageable between washes
Wash extensions with a sulfate-free shampoo and follow with a moisturizing conditioner
Allow extensions to air dry when possible to preserve the hair cuticle
Store wigs and clip-ins on a hair stand to maintain their shape between uses
